layer, and press F6 to insert a keyframe. 2. Select the Rectangle tool; specify no stroke and a fill color of #FFCC00. 3. Draw a small rectangle under the word Leon. 4. Select the rectangle. In the Property inspector, enter the following values: width=100, height=4, X=37, and Y=73. [View full size image] 5. With the rectangle selected, press F8 to convert it into a symbol. 6. In the Convert To Symbol dialog box, select Movie Clip, and name the symbol marker. Click OK. Creating Buttons You can assign many different actions to buttons. In this project, each button displays a larger version of the button's image in the content area of the Stage. You'll create several symbols to achieve this: graphic, movie clip, and button symbols all play a role. A graphic symbol contains the images, and is set to display a particular frame. A movie clip symbol animates the Over state for the button, so that the image expands slightly when selected. The button symbol contains the graphic and movie clip symbols in its rollover states. You'll create one button with its symbols and rollover states, and then duplicate it to create additional buttons, which require only minor modifications. Creating a Graphic Symbol with Multiple Frames The basis of the button will be a graphic symbol that contains all the button images, each on its own frame in a single layer. Start by creating the graphic symbol, setting it to display only a single frame. Then, distribute the images to separate layers, align them so that they're stacked on top of each other, and move them to individual frames on the Graphics layer within the symbol. 1. Select all the frames on the Assets layer, and drag them to the Buttons layer. All the images that were on the Assets layer are now on the Buttons layer. 2. Delete the Assets layer. 3. Select the Buttons layer. 4. Select all the images on the pasteboard and drag them onto the Stage, beneath the word Leon. 5. With all the images selected, press F8 to convert them into a symbol. 6. In the Convert To Symbol dialog box, select Graphic, set the registration point to the upper-left corner, and name the symbol small_previews. Click OK. [View full size image] 7. Select the small_previews symbol on the Stage. In the Property inspector, choose Single Frame from the pop-up menu next to the Swap button. Note The Single Frame option lets you display just one frame from a graphic symbol. You can display a different frame for each button, but use the same graphic symbol for all of them. 8. Double-click the small_previews symbol to edit it.
